Vision

The department of ELT sees its role as a leader in the field of English language education and be seen as a platform for developing competent teachers and quality teaching, aiming at continuous improvements. It seeks to prepare educators who will serve both academic and professional needs of their students.

Mission

The department of ELT aims to support and encourage students of diverse abilities to become competent teachers of English. The teaching faculty endeavours to impart to their students knowledge and skills based on the best educational and technological initiatives. They focus on the individual and collective potential of the learners to understand concepts in the English language and express them in both speech and writing with greater accuracy and fluency.

Overview

The course is designed for English language education professionals who wish to remain practitioners of various kinds, so the academic continuum of the course leads from research and scholarship back into practice. The course offers students the opportunity to carry out educational research in ways intended to enhance their own professional development and to enable them to contribute to innovation in their work environment.

Admission Requirement

  • First class M.A degree in e.g. ELT, Education, Applied Linguistics, TEFL or TESOL and a CGPA not less than 3.0 OR teachers / lecturers with a good second division in M.A English Literature (Annual Systems)
  • She will need to give evidence of good research potential
  • Must submit a statement indicating her area of interest and idea for investigation
  • Should have a minimum of three years of teaching experience.
  • All candidates must appear for KC Graduate Assessment Test.
  • Only short listed candidates will be called for the Interview.

Research Thesis:

An M.Phil candidate who has completed her course work with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 must present and pass the oral proposal defense examination before she is allowed to carry out her Masters research. On passing the thesis proposal defense the student must carry out a research study which is described in a thesis. She must successfully defend the completed work in an oral examination involving a presentation and question answer session in the presence of an external examiner.
