Our vision is to become progressive department that serve as a national centre for the plant sciences by training the graduates who will be the leaders in botanical education and research and to energize the public appreciation of plants, fungi and protists.
Mission
Our mission is to discover and convey the scientific knowledge about the biology of plants at the organism, community and ecosystem level and to promote awareness and appreciation of diverse and vibrant field of botany. Our core value is plant biology including critical interactions and relationships to other organisms. The department has expertise in two broad areas: the microbial and cellular / molecular levels, these two strengths continue to enhance these areas. The program endeavors to prepare students for a professional career as a plant scientist with expertise and proven credentials both as a scholar and as a teacher.
Overview
This course of Botany seeks to give the students a comprehensive knowledge that would develop a critical insight into the specialized areas of Botany with an applied approach starting from cellular details in cell biology, to molecular approach in Biochemistry. Since the core of botany is plants (though it should also be reminded that in the study of botany, Kingdom Fungi and Algae is also discussed, though it has its own study: Mycology often paired with Virology, Phycology for algae). Basic Introductory Botany course will enable you to understand the interesting mechanisms of plants which include their growth and development, chemical properties, genetics, ecology, evolution etc. and most of them will instill an understanding on the importance of plants. Plant Anatomy and Morphology which deals with structures, evolution, process and mechanism of plant parts and Taxonomy which is the science of describing, naming, and classifying of organisms. New sciences such as Genetic Engineering which caters the issue of Genetically Modified Organism (GMO), Economic Botany which deals on how to utilize the plant kingdom and even Forensic Botany, that uses plant to find clues for crimes.
Genetics has become an indispensable component of almost all research in modern biology and medicine. In order to meet the challenging demands, subjects like Principles of Genetics, Plant Biochemistry, Microbiology, Plant Molecular and Microbial Genetics, Recombinant DNA Technology, Biotechnology, Biochemical techniques would orient the students in modern research areas. Besides this, important and core issues related to agriculture are also taught, given its importance for Pakistan. It is compulsory for all the students to conduct a research project. The research would be carried out in most active and applied areas like Plant Tissue Culture, Biotechnology, Eco-physiology, Phyto-physiology, Biochemistry, Phyto-pathology and Plant Anatomy and Environmental Biology.
Degree Requirements for BS Botany 4 years program
To receive BS Botany degree, a student must complete a total of 136 credit hours with a minimum CGPA of 2.50.

Active Citizenship Program
Active Citizenship program offered by Kinnaird College in collaboration with British Council and HEC is a social leadership training program that promotes intercultural dialogue and community-led social development. It is a mandatory requirement for the completion of undergraduate degree and based on two semesters. All students will study the theoretical portion through different activities starting in their 3rd semester. They will plan their social action projects in 4th semester and implement it in the field.
